An Island of Redbuds on the CimarronBrummett Echohawk
Pink blossoms enliven this horseshoe bend in the sandy-bottomed Cimarron River where Brummett Echohawk’s family settled after the Pawnee forcibly left their ancestral lands. Painting with a bowie knife, the artist stretched storm clouds across the prairie sky, swirled spring hues along the riverbank, and layered thick paint with incised lines on the windblown redbud. More than a landscape with flowering trees, this painting is a tribute to home.
