About Book Club

Gilcrease Museum and the Tulsa Literary Coalition have teamed up to present a book club in coordination with our exhibition schedule. This unique partnership will feature a curated reading list, author talks, book discussions led by Pat Cawiezell of the Tulsa Literary Coalition and special tours of exhibitions, both permanent and traveling. This program is free with museum admission and occurs on the first Sunday of every other month.

June 7 | The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve
Gilcrease Museum and the Tulsa Literary Coalition have teamed up to present a book club for Gilcrease Museum exhibitions. This unique partnership will feature a curated reading list, author talks, book discussions led by Pat Cawiezell of the Tulsa Literary Coalition and special tours of the exhibit. This program is free with museum admission. The book for discussion on June 7 is The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve. This book centers around the story an extraordinary young woman tested by a catastrophic event and is based on the true story of the largest fire in Maine’s history. The discussion will be followed by a tour of Landscapes on Fire: Paintings by Michael Scott.

August 2 | Cherokee America by Margaret Verble
Gilcrease Museum and the Tulsa Literary Coalition have teamed up to present a book club for Gilcrease Museum exhibitions. This unique partnership will feature a curated reading list, author talks, book discussions led by Pat Cawiezell of the Tulsa Literary Coalition and special tours of the exhibit. This program is free with museum admission. The book for discussion on August 2 is Cherokee America by Margaret Verble. This book centers around the story of complex family alliances and culture clashes in the Cherokee Nation during the aftermath of the Civil War, and the unforgettable woman at its center. The discussion will be followed by a tour of Weaving History into Art: The Legacy of Shan Goshorn.
