Brooklynn Holmes

Brooklynn Holmes, a member of the Cherokee Nation and local Tulsan, has been interested in writing and storytelling her entire life. She is currently an undergraduate student in English at Tulsa Community College with the intent to transfer into a creative writing degree at Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow. At the Gilcrease Museum, Brooklynn interns in the Marketing department.

Within her role, Brooklynn creates marketing content for Gilcrease’s social media platforms, website, and newsletter. She often helps locate artwork in the Gilcrease’s collection to share, edit videos to post, or writes fun captions for the Gilcrease social media pages. She is particularly drawn to Indigenous storytelling as a way to reconnect with her Cherokee heritage, which she feels distanced from, having grown up away from the Cherokee Nation.

Gilcrease Museum is a place she has always admired, and with the museum under construction, she wants to remind people that there is still ongoing programming, research, and art to see both online and in-person. Since much of the population has an online presence, she finds the public is still very engaged with the museum. Brook is excited to refine her copywriting skills through promoting the museum’s diverse art programming and behind-the-scenes content.

Reflecting on her experience, Brooklynn says, learning about the institution you’re interested in is most important. Every brand has a story and voice, and their social media will reflect that. By learning to read an institution’s voice and understanding who they are and what their mission is, you can gain valuable insight into how to create content that resonates with them.

Overall, Brooklynn believes that passion for what you do makes for the best experience. Her interest in creative writing and art makes her internship even more fun and she finds enthusiasm is an important aspect of finding fulfillment in your career.
