Morgen Cloud

Morgen Cloud, member of the Cherokee and Delaware nation and Tulsa local, has always had an interest in writing and pursued journalism at John Brown University in Arkansas, where she received her undergraduate degree. While at JBU, Morgen developed a passion for Native American studies through her professors and mentors, and she is now pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma.

Morgen found her opportunity to work at the Gilcrease Museum through the Cherokee Nation’s C.B. Wilson Internship, which offers Native American undergraduate and graduate students a chance to explore careers in museums. At the Gilcrease Museum, Morgen is interning in the Digital Collections department.

Morgen was drawn to Digital Collections because of her desire to preserve and deepen her understanding of Native American literature and heritage. She often works behind the scenes on the collections website, labeling and categorizing various works of art. This project enhances the searchability of Gilcrease’s collection, making it more accessible to the public and scholars alike. While the museum is undergoing renovations, the online collections are crucial for scholars researching specific works. Morgen has enjoyed learning, sharing her interests with her department mentors, and contributing to the long-term development of the Gilcrease digital collections.

When asked what advice she would give to peers interested in Native American studies, Morgen emphasizes the importance of networking and attending conferences that align with your interests. She advises taking advantage of every opportunity, being open to conversations with others in your field, and actively joining relevant circles, as this is how she found her current position.
