Gilcrease is teaming up with Under The Canopy to host this special camp that celebrates the magic of the sunshine and coincides with the longest day of the year. Students will harness the power of the sun’s rays through artistic and naturalist expression. Mornings will be spent sketching and studying plant and animal life on the museum’s lush grounds and the diverse terrain of the adjacent Stuart Park. In the afternoons, they will gather ideas from artists’ interpretations of the sun in the museum collections and work in the studio crafting their own creations using the medium of printmaking and assembling science experiments. The camp will conclude with a celebration of the sun on Summer Solstice (the 21st) and a sharing of all the sun works campers have created.
